How it works

Build a 32-channel input list in minutes

The list opens first on this page. The stage below it updates with every row you add.

  1. Start from a line-up or a blank stageLoad the nearest preset, or delete rows you do not need. Each preset has 6 to 24 inputs.
  2. Type a source and press Add“Kick Out”, “Acoustic Gtr”, “Trumpet”: the rules pick mic or DI, +48V and stand, and drop a tile on stage.
  3. Fix what your rig really usesChange the mic, tick or untick +48V, choose the stand, pin a Subsnake port. Warnings explain risky +48V choices.
  4. Keep FOH order, or move rowsArrows switch to Custom order; Sort to FOH order puts drums back at Ch 1. Then export or open the rider.

When to use it

Who needs an input patch list

Engineers without a plot yet
Type the band’s sources from a phone call; the generator builds the plot as you go. Then check the layout on the stage plot maker.
Bands moving to a new console
Carry the same order, names and colours to an X32 or M32 with the scene generator.
Shared bills and festivals
Compare line-ups and stagebox counts in the stage layout planner; see the example input lists.
Riders that need an input sheet
Page 2 of the tech rider is this list with one column per mix. The rider PDF guide explains what venues check, and the stage plot guide how to number inputs on the drawing.
Monitor mixes per channel
Mark Low, Med or High for every musician in the monitor mix chart maker.

Auto FOH order

Seven groups, always in the same sequence

Channels sort by group, then by the order the source was added, then by the drum kit’s own order (kick, snare, hi-hat, toms high to low, overheads).

OrderGroupX32 colourTypical sources
1Drums & PercussionRDKick, snare, hats, toms, overheads, cajon, congas
2BassYEBass DI, bass cab mic, upright DI and mic, bass synth
3GuitarsGNAmp mics, modeler XLR outs, acoustic DI

5Horns & StringsMGTrumpet, sax, trombone, violin, cello
6VocalsCYLead vocal, backing vocals, wireless, MC
7Playback & UtilityWHTracks, click, laptop, DJ, talkback

A typed “Acoustic Gtr” added to the worship preset lands at Ch 12, right after Gtr L and Gtr R, and Keys L moves from 12 to 13. That is the behaviour engineers expect from a list built by hand.

Mapping rules

Typed word → mic or DI, +48V and stand

First match wins, whole words, upper or lower case. Two-word rules such as “kick out” are tried first, and any name with a vocal word (BV, Vox, MC) is a vocal.

+48V

Who needs phantom power, and who must not get it

Phantom power is 48 volts DC on pins 2 and 3 of the XLR, switched per input at the console.

Condenser mics need it to run their capsule and electronics: the Beta 91A in the kick, SM81 on hats, C414 overheads, KM184 on piano, DPA 4099 clip-ons and the KSM9 vocal. Active DIs such as the Radial J48 and Countryman Type 85 use it instead of a battery.

Dynamic mics (SM57, SM58, Beta 52A, e604, MD 421) and passive DIs ignore it. Modeler XLR outputs, wireless receivers and ribbon mics are different: most are protected, some are not, and none benefit. The list flags them with “Check before sending +48V to this output”.

In the 5-piece rock preset, 5 of 16 channels carry +48V: Kick In, Hi-Hat, OH L, OH R and Bass DI. Swap the kick mic to a Beta 52A and the count drops to 4 everywhere — stats, scene summary and rider.

Subsnake A / B

How stagebox ports are assigned

With one box on stage every channel goes to it in channel order. With two boxes, drums, percussion and bass go to A, everything else to B.

DRUM RISER BASS A Box A: Ch 1–8 GTR KEYS VOCAL MICS B Box B: Ch 9–16 AUDIENCE · FRONT OF STAGE Snake / AES50 runs from both boxes to FOH
Box A sits upstage by the riser and bass rig; box B sits downstage centre for guitars, keys and vocal mics. Ports number A-01… and B-01… in channel order.

Pick a port by hand and that row is pinned; the others renumber around it. More than 16 inputs on a 16-channel box raises a warning — add box B or a 32-channel box.

FAQ

Questions musicians and engineers ask

What order should an input list follow?

Most FOH engineers patch drums first, then bass, guitars, keys, horns and strings, vocals, and finally playback, click and talkback. The generator keeps that order automatically and numbers channels 1–32; move a row up or down and it switches to Custom order until you press Sort to FOH order.

What happens when I type a source name?

The name goes through the mapping rules: “Kick Out” becomes a Shure Beta 52A on a short boom, “Acoustic Gtr” a Radial J48 Active DI with +48V, “Trumpet” a Sennheiser MD 421 on a tall boom. The row lands at the end of its group, and a matching tile is placed on the stage.

Can I change the mic, stand or port the rules picked?

Yes. Every row has a mic or DI menu, a +48V checkbox, an alternate mic, a stand menu and a Subsnake port menu. Picking a new mic sets +48V to what that mic needs. Choosing a port by hand pins that row; the other rows renumber around it.

How are Subsnake A and B ports assigned?

With only stagebox A on stage, every channel goes to A in channel order. With A and B on stage, drums, percussion and bass go to A (usually upstage near the riser) and everything else goes to B. More than 16 inputs on one 16-channel box shows a warning so you can add a box.

Why does the list warn about +48V on a Helix or wireless receiver?

Modeler XLR outputs and wireless receivers are line-level outputs. Most survive phantom power, but some older units and transformer-less outputs do not, and it adds nothing. The warning reads “Check before sending +48V to this output”. It never blocks your choice.
