How it works
Lay out the stage before load-in
Stage size and units sit in the ribbon; the planner panel adds power, stageboxes, checks and saved line-ups.
- Set the sizeClub, livehouse or festival, or a custom width × depth. Switch between ft and m at any time.
- Place risers and backlineTiles are true-size footprints; drag, rotate 90° and resize within 50–200 % of the real size.
- Add power and stageboxesOne 110V or 230V drop per position; stagebox A by the riser, B downstage. The checks list flags gaps.
- Save the line-upKeep up to four in this browser; the tour bundle compares them side by side.
When to use it
Who plans a stage layout
- Festival stage managers
- Check every act fits the deck and the drops. Start from the example plots or a blank stage plot.
- Bands switching between full and stripped sets
- Save each line-up and compare inputs and mixes; build each list in the patch list generator.
- Churches and venues with fixed stages
- Model the real platform, then chart IEM mixes and the X32 scene.
- Advancing a show
- Send the layout with the tech rider; read how to make a stage plot and what goes in the rider PDF.

Stage sizes in feet and metres
The planner accepts 12 × 8 to 60 × 40 ft (4 × 3 to 18 × 12 m).
| Size | Feet | Metres | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Club | 16 × 12 | 4.88 × 3.66 | Duo to 4-piece, one wedge line |
| Livehouse | 24 × 16 | 7.32 × 4.88 | 5-piece with riser and 4 wedges |
| Worship platform | 32 × 20 | 9.75 × 6.10 | Band + IEMs + choir risers |
| Festival | 40 × 24 | 12.19 × 7.32 | Changeover with rolling risers |
| Largest supported | 60 × 40 | 18.29 × 12.19 | Arena-style or multi-band stages |
Riser sizes
| Riser | Metric | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Drum riser 8 × 6 ft | 2.44 × 1.83 m | Standard 5-piece kit with throne |
| Drum riser 8 × 8 ft | 2.44 × 2.44 m | Kit plus drum sub or percussion table |
| Drum riser 6 × 6 ft | 1.83 × 1.83 m | Jazz or cocktail kit |
| Riser deck 4 × 8 ft | 1.22 × 2.44 m | Keys, horns or choir tiers |
Rules of thumb
Clearances the layout checks use
The checks list in the planner measures these from your plot as you drag.
| Distance | Target | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wedge to vocal mic | 1.5–5 ft (0.5–1.5 m) | Closer feeds back, further sounds thin |
| Guitar amp to vocal mic | ≥ 3 ft (0.9 m) | Keeps amp bleed out of the vocal |
| Items to stage edge | ≥ 0.5 ft (15 cm) | Nothing hangs over the lip |
| Walkway behind the line | ≥ 2 ft (0.6 m) | Room for techs and cables |
| Power drop to each position | ≤ 6 ft (1.8 m) | No extension runs across walkways |
In the 5-piece rock preset each vocal mic is 3–3.5 ft from its wedge, inside the 1.5–5 ft window, and every amp, keyboard and playback position has a drop within 6 ft.
Power
Planning 110V and 230V drops
One drop per backline position is the rule venues expect; mark the voltage on each.
| Region | Voltage | Typical drop |
|---|---|---|
| North America, Japan, parts of Latin America | 110–120V | NEMA 5-15 quad boxes; one 15–20 A circuit per backline line |
| Europe, UK, most of Asia, Australia | 230–240V | Schuko / BS 1363 strips; one 16 A circuit per position |
| Mixed bills / touring backline | both | Mark voltage on every drop; bring step-down transformers for 110V gear |
The stats card counts drops by voltage, for example “AC Power Drops: 5 (4 × 110V · 1 × 230V)” after adding a 230V drop for a European keyboard rig to the rock preset.
Stageboxes
Where to put stagebox A and B
With both boxes on stage, drums, percussion and bass patch to A and everything else to B. A 24-input horn band splits 14 on A and 10 on B.
FAQ
Questions musicians and engineers ask
What stage sizes can I plan?
Pick club (16 × 12 ft), livehouse (24 × 16 ft) or festival (40 × 24 ft), or type any custom size from 12 × 8 to 60 × 40 ft (4 × 3 to 18 × 12 m). Values outside that range are clamped and the ribbon tells you what it set.
Where is position measured from?
Positions are measured from the upstage Stage Right corner — the back corner on the audience’s left. Select the drum kit in the 5-piece rock preset and the inspector reads X 12.0 ft · Y 4.0 ft: centred across the 24 ft stage, 4 ft from the back.
How many power drops should I mark?
Mark one drop per backline position: each amp line, the keyboard rig, the pedalboards, the playback rig and the drum riser if there are electronics. Use 110V drops for North American venues and 230V for most of Europe, Asia and Australia; mixed shows count both.
What is the Dark-Stage view for?
Changeovers happen in low light. The Dark-Stage view uses black, white and grey only, shows Subsnake ports in large type at every source and draws power drops as bold rings, so a stagehand with a torch can patch without reading colour.
What are saved line-ups?
Save up to four line-ups in this browser — for example the full band, a trio and an acoustic set. The planner shows the change against line-up A, and the tour print bundle adds a side-by-side comparison sheet with inputs, +48V, mixes and power for each.
